Portal: A Day in the Life of a Turret
Description:
If a turret bitches about its job and nobody is around to hear it, does it make a sound? You bet it does. “A Day in the Life of a Turret” catches two turrets on the job during a typical day at the Aperture Science Enrichment Center, and the monotony that lies within.

Could’ve done without the cursing. It ruined the child-like innocence of the way the turrets sound while they’re trying to kill you. Other than that it had a few funny moments.

I’m with RAF2. Not only is cursing a cheap laugh (that is typically enjoyed most by the immature), but it just doesn’t fit the character of the turrets or the game at all.
January 18th, 2008 at 5:46 pm » Quote
DranCoin, actually, you are incorrect. Has nothing to do with a typo. PWNED is just the cooler way of saying OWNED.
Get it right or don’t type.
And GREAT video! Keep it up!

I thought it was funny. And that’s pretty much what our office sounds like all day
The only thing I would change is when they hum the theme is to either make the humming in the same key as the background music, or fade the background music out somehow, it’s in a different key so it sounds distracting (to me anyway).

I laughed, then displayed this on my projector screen at work… lots of other people laughed as well. GOOD comedic timing guys! Hope to see more
January 19th, 2008 at 6:51 am » Quote
No, actually it did originate from a typo. See how P is right next to O? It’s easy to hit it by accident, especially in the heat of the moment (Though why he thought it originated in RTS’s is beyond me.)
However, arguing about how to pronounce a typo is just silly. Anyone who uses it is being a bit silly in the first place (And hopefully everyone that says it knows it. Tongue in cheek is always nice, but some people are just dumb.), so they don’t take it too seriously.
It’s like arguing “HEY THAT CARTOON DRAGON SHOULDN’T BE PINK BECAUSE DRAGONS ARE ACTUALLY GREEN OR OLIVE DRAB!”.
So Dran, Dirtbag, you’re both wrong.

January 20th, 2008 at 8:44 am » Quote
Actually, you’re ALL WRONG. Pwnd originates in the dark jungles of Sweden, and is a shortened form of “pwndxyzgkhfyprtyxzktsklmnxszxgyt”, which means “He who has lost all honor because he was slapped in the face by a short, red-headed woman on the last Tuesday of the second month.”

January 20th, 2008 at 2:44 pm » Quote
Acccctually, from what I heared, PWNED is a combination of OWNED but using just a Pistol(usually the least powerful weapon in any good FPS). Killing someone with just a pistol is apparently the most vindictive move in an online FPS. Meaning the pistol bearer is l33t and the victim just got PWNED.
So, to sum up, that spiel explains being Pistol-OWNED, or POWNED. PWNED for short.
That is all.

LAWL, and argument on the etymology of a slang PWN
BTW, greeat vid, made my day.
I recently read an article BY Blizzard claiming that PWN was a typo created by one of their pvp map designers for Warcraft: Orcs & Humans (yes Warcraft I) when creating an endgame message of ” OWNS ” there was a typo, that slipped all the way to production.
There was much documented use of the word OWN prior to this point, but their theory stands plausible, IMO. If I find a link, I’ll post it for your argumentative pleasure.
Pronunciation, I say poned, just because I know it should be owned. Kind of like I say roffle and DoubleyouTeeEff

Found this from DubiousQuality (yes, I’m a few days behind on Stumbling/Digging/etc). Almost stopped it, as the first 30-45 seconds wasn’t that interesting. But man, it gets so much better. It really picks up at the tic-tac-toe game, and just improves from there to the end.
Especially love when the companion cube shows up, albeit so briefly.

lol? the cursing makes it even more funny because they sound so immature and yet they’re cursing the heck out of everything. its hilarous. “Come out bitch” Epic lulz indeed XD plus the cursing makes it even more funny when they’re talking in a monotone. “what the shit, balls. shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit”. and for the people arguing about OWNED or PWNED what he actually said was POWNED ok? he added a p to it. no biggie. a pwned DID NOT COME FROM ANYTHING SPECIAL. IT IS SIMPLY A CUTER/COOLER WAY TO SAY OWNED. the same way people don’t always say ROFL. they say ROFLMAO or ROFLCOPTER or ROFLCAKES and the same way people say FTW~ as well as WTF. the whole argument about it is pretty stupid lmao

PWNED was a typo that dates almost exclusively back to 1997, Quake2. Do some research, planetquake.com had an article about it back in 1997 about it. It came from having to quickly type “owned” when playing, because there was no voice over.
The p was hit with the right hand ring finger from hastily typing.

Great job, guys. Don’t be troubled by the lowest common denominator types who critique it for cursing of all things, or just say it isn’t funny without any constructive criticism. I re-read figs’ comment just to be sure, and nope, I don’t see a link to the superior work he’s done. He fails.
I can see you’re not really troubled by them, anyway. With your experience, you’re well aware that the signal-to-noise ratio of the internet is pretty high. Teh Intarwebz gives everyone a voice, even cretins and morons. You’re statistically bound to hear from them here.
What people don’t get (and what GOOD writers like you guys DO get) is that you were SUPPOSED to peel back the layer that we all see in-game to reveal the mundane, problem-fraught lives of the turrets we used to see as two-dimensional, predictable entities. They bicker, they curse their existence, and they dream of what else there might be. Total genius. I wish I had come up with it, myself.
I hope you’re considering what you’ve seen here in various forms– we want more turrets!
